In 2016, one of my colleagues said to me, “You have to watch Jodorowsky’s Dune. I definitely think you will love it.” We had a discussion, and he told me how the story of Jodorowsky’s Dune might have made the modern genre of SciFi, from Star Wars to Blade Runner to Alien and more. Fast forward to one weekend during the fall of 2017, when I finally watched Jodorowsky’s Dune and the transcendent power of enlightenment sundered my mind. WOW! It was everything he said and more.

However, there was one name in the film—Jean Giraud, aka “Moebius,” a French artist, cartoonist, and writer, who was one of Jodorowsky’s “spiritual warriors.” Jodorowsky claimed that he could give Moebius a simple description of what he was thinking and—SNAP—Moebius would sketch the image fast and spot-on to Jodorowsky’s vision. Spoiler alert: Jodorowsky lost the battle to make his Dune film with the studio. However, in my opinion, he won the war by gaining a partnership with Moebius and crafted the stunning combo of illustrated literature that would become the Jodoverse: The Incal, Metabarons, Megalex, The Technopriests, and Diosamante, to name some.

It was during or about spring in 2018 when I discovered on Patreon, the future illustrator of Dor Vahdor. I was attracted to his style and sent him a small monthly donation. He sent me a Yoda watercolor as a “thank you,” and I loved it so much that I asked him if he would be interested in a map commission for a fantasy world I was developing. He agreed and knocked it out of the park. Then, in 2019, I asked him once more if he was interested in a commission—not just for a map, but to illustrate an entire book. I told him that I wanted illustrations to complement the various parts of the book and drive the reader’s imagination page by page. That was the pitch, and he was game, so in June 2019, we began.

Eric Boireau is an absolute pleasure to work with, because of his talents and his passion. As he says, “I LOVE art, and I love making art!” He can translate the vision in my mind into art, just as Moebius did for Jodorowsky. I tell him what is needed, and BOOM, he brings it into existence. Eric is one of a kind—I love his art and am very grateful that we have worked together and continue to forge ahead on the next part of the Lost Legends and Sagas of the Preflood Earth.

Eric has my permission to draw Dor Vahdor art commissions for fans outside of the book. Besides his world of Tumeria, he has painted many classic genres over the years, delving into Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Muppets, and 1980s animated classics. I encourage any reader who enjoys the artwork in this book to check out Eric’s official websites.
